Elena sold us Bhutan without selling it. She simply described what it was like, with very personal details, and we decided to go. We went with our 8- and 11-year-old kids to Kenya and Zanzibar. We'd been told a safari with children was risky and it worked out the opposite way: the Angama Mara ranger explained things to them in Spanish, let them ask anything and arranged a free afternoon to swim when he noticed they were tired. That last-minute change didn't come from nowhere — it came from having briefed Inma before leaving Madrid.

I travelled to Japan alone during the momiji season. Twelve days. I had never planned a trip like this on my own before and I admit I was nervous. Elena arranged a route with Aman Kyoto, a ryokan in Hakone and two nights in a temple in Koyasan. Every day a different guide waited for me in the lobby, in Spanish or English depending on what I needed. I came home with the feeling of having learned to travel in a new way.

Eight friends aboard a gulet through Croatia. Split, Hvar, Vis, the Kornati. On the third day the weather forecast turned and the captain wanted to reroute south; Pablo was on the phone from Madrid at seven in the morning to reconfirm reservations at two restaurants we didn't want to miss. By the time we docked he'd also changed a flight. Nothing blew up.

Botswana + South Africa in twelve nights. Clear budget from the first call, no surprises. The Okavango Delta with Wilderness in a tented camp, Chobe by boat at dawn, two final nights at Ellerman House in Cape Town. We booked on 8 January and flew in June: yes, six months in advance were required, but for a reason. The camps you want don't have spare beds.

I changed the itinerary three times before booking. Three. New Zealand or Chile, then New Zealand only, then New Zealand + Fiji. Nuria reworked the budget and the flight combinations all three times without ever once making me feel I was pushing it. It ended up being twenty nights: helicopter to Fox Glacier, kayak in Milford Sound and ten days on Vomo Island. Flawless.

Peru and Bolivia in fifteen nights. They booked us on the Belmond Andean Explorer between Cusco and Puno, with the pago a la Tierra ceremony on an island of Lake Titicaca alongside a shaman who had been closing trips exclusively for the agency for years. That contact isn't something just anyone has. Bolivia was closed with the Kachi Lodge in the heart of the Uyuni salt flats. An American stopover and home.

Nine nights between Amanpuri in Phuket and Como Shambhala in Bali. It was a private celebration — the close of a chapter, more than a trip. Inma read exactly what I needed without me having to explain it twice: less activity, more silence, long stretches between treatments. I never saw the logistics. Only the transfer appearing at exactly the right moment.
