Patina Maldives: conscious luxury comes to Luxury Atelier with Pure Escapes

We attended the exclusive presentation of Marcio Kogan’s resort in the Fari Islands. Why it is one of the most original stays in the Maldives today.

Some hotels you visit; others you remember. Patina Maldives belongs to the second kind. This week the Luxury Atelier by Presstour team attended an exclusive presentation of the resort, at the invitation of our friends at Pure Escapes. We left with one certainty: it is one of the most original propositions in the Maldives today.

Thank you to Pure Escapes for introducing us first-hand to a hotel that does not follow the usual tropical-paradise script, but rewrites it.

A resort that breaks the mould

Patina Maldives opened in May 2021 in the Fari Islands, in North Malé Atoll. It is a 45-minute speedboat ride from the international airport, with no need for a seaplane.

It is the flagship of Patina Hotels & Resorts, the lifestyle brand of Capella Hotel Group, designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan: clean lines, wood, stone and linen, and villas that open to the outdoors on three sides.

The Fari Islands form a small archipelago with a marina, boutiques, an art gallery and a beach club. Guests choose between the privacy of their villa and the social life of the island.

Villas for every way of travelling

The resort has 110 accommodations: 90 beach and overwater villas, all with a private pool and one to three bedrooms, plus 20 Fari Studios by the beach.

Every villa comes with the Essentialist service, a personal butler and concierge who anticipates every detail of your stay. For us, the sunset-facing overwater villas are the most romantic choice.

Twelve ways to dine in paradise

Forget the resort buffet. Patina brings together 12 restaurant and bar concepts, each with its own personality:

  • Roots, its flagship plant-based restaurant.
  • Fari Beach Club, with a menu by two-Michelin-starred chef Nick Bril.
  • Casual food trucks, plus Asian, Greek and international cuisine.

No wonder many travellers now consider it one of the best dining destinations in the Maldives.

Art, wellbeing and conscious luxury

The island is home to a James Turrell Skyspace, a light installation for contemplating the sky at sunrise and sunset — one of the most singular experiences in the country.

The FLOW Spa offers Watsu pools and wellness rituals, and the PADI dive centre opens the door to the atoll’s reefs. The resort also works to zero-waste principles and runs a coral regeneration project.

Who is Patina for?

  • Honeymooners looking for more than an overwater villa.
  • Families, thanks to Footprints, its solar-powered children’s learning centre.
  • Lovers of design, art and food.
  • Maldives repeat visitors who want a different way to experience the islands.

If you are after absolute seclusion, we will help you weigh other options: Patina combines privacy with a lively social scene.
