Frequently asked questions

What our clients ask us

Which is the best month for Antarctica?

December-February (austral summer). December for penguins in full mating, January for newborn chicks, February for whales. Departures are limited.

What is the experience aboard Le Commandant Charcot like?

It is a PC2 electric icebreaker, the highest polar rating. 123 suites with a balcony, a Sothys spa, two restaurants, a helicopter on board and kayaks. It can reach the geographic North Pole in summer.

What if I get seasick?

Modern ships have very advanced stabilisers. The Drake Passage (Antarctica) can be rough for 36 hours; the North of Spitsbergen and the Norwegian fjords are much calmer waters.

Do I need any special physical condition?

Expeditions are accessible with normal physical condition. Landings are short (1-2 hours) without great effort. For altitude treks in Bhutan or Nepal we do ask for good fitness.
